Why do I love hot water bottles so much? I figure it must be inherited, as my Mum can not go without. She even has a spare one in our house in case she has to stay over on short notice… despite the fact we already own two.
Here is why we think they are great and should belong in every house.
They relieve pain – stomach pain, menstrual pain, back pain, cramps, chronic pains.
They do give comfort. Try it when you are home alone.
Have you ever tried falling asleep with cold feet, it's basically impossible.
They keep you warm at night without the danger of burning. They are the most natural way of delivering heat (apart from another human being).
There is a clinical study by Brian King of the University College London which proves that a hot-water bottle applied to the skin, provides relief from internal pains, such as stomach aches for up to an hour. The heat doesn’t just provide comfort and have a placebo effect – it actually deactivates the pain at a molecular level in much the same way as pharmaceutical painkillers work.
So here we go… Grannies were right all long.
