Yesterday a friend asked me about sunscreen - it's a debated topic lately as they discovered a lot of them are not that healthy and people even have started making their own from natural oils. The thing is we do not really use much sunscreen. We make sure the kids wear a hat and that their shoulders are covered. Also they generally spend more time in the shade than in the sun. You still get Vitamin D in the shade, the only time the body really can't absorb any is when you put a heavy sunblock on. Light coloured cotton t-shirts at the beach or in the paddling pool make sure the kids don't get a sunburn but the fabric still lets a healthy amount of sunlight through to their skin.
